A SPIRITAN ANTHOLOGY
The publication of the French edition
The Enlarged General Council in Pittsburgh (2001) expressedthe wish that an anthology of texts from our founders, Claude Poullart des Places and Francis Mary-Paul Libermann, be prepared. Under the auspices of the commission “ History and Anniversaries ” and then the Centre for Spiritan Studies at Duquesne (USA), Fr. Christian de Mare devoted himself to this task, the fruit of many years research into the life of the Congregation. He has now gathered together some major texts of our spiritan tradition concerning the life, work and spirituality of our founders.
This “Anthologie spiritaine”, which has just been printed in France , is a book of 627 pages, divided into two parts: the first presents some texts of Poullart des Places while the second (7 chapters) is made up of extracts from the works of Libermann. Each text is preceded by a short introduction.
The General Council thanks Fr. Christian de Mare and his collaborators most sincerely for this patient and scholarly work. It is felt that it will be an important reference point for the spiritual renewal of the Congregation. So it is recommended not only to young confreres in initial formation but to all Spiritans and Associates, hoping that everybody will acquire a personal copy. Superiors of circumscriptions are asked to facilitate this. Steps are already being taken to translate the anthology into English, Spanish and Portuguese.
The Council also thanks Fr. Michel Robert of “ Pentecote sur le Monde” who was responsible for the layout of the book and the "Procure des Missions" in Paris who have taken on responsibility for its distribution. Shortly, the French version will be sent to the French-speaking circumscriptions. The superiors of non-francophone circumscriptions and those in charge of each formation community will also be sent a copy. Further copies of the French edition can be ordered from the Procure des Missions in Paris at €8 per copy (postage extra).
