Preparations for the Second Special Assembly of the Synod for Africa
Visit of Benedict XVI to Cameroun and Angola (17-23 March 2009)
While reading closely the speeches of the Pope during his recent travels in Africa, I noticed that he dealt with a large number of themes with clarity and depth. These themes are also of interest to us as Spiritan missionaries. So, I wish to highlight some sections and offer them for reflection to all my Spiritan brothers and sisters. Nothing however, could be better than to read the speeches themselves which are accessible on the site www.vatican.va .
Jean-Paul Hoch, CSSp .
1. SYNOD
“I have come here to issue the Instrumentum Laboris for the Second Special Assembly, which will take place in Rome this coming October… Almost ten years into the new millennium, this moment of grace is a summons to all the Bishops, priests, religious and lay faithful of the continent to rededicate themselves to the mission of the Church to bring hope to the hearts of the people of Africa, and indeed to people throughout the world.” (Yaoundé, 17/03/2009)
2. SUFFERINGS OF AFRICA
“In the face of suffering or violence, poverty or hunger, corruption or abuse of power, a Christian can never remain silent. The saving message of the Gospel needs to be proclaimed loud and clear, so that the light of Christ can shine into the darkness of people's lives.

The General Chapter of 2004 at Torre d'Aguilha saw as its main objective, to reactivate, revitalize the gift that the Congregation had originally received from God, the charism. The first and most important document produced by that chapter is about our spiritual renewal. The task is beyond the scope of any one document. The spiritual renewal of the members of the Congregation is happening on many fronts. The present ID simply wants to help a little to move the work of our spiritual renewal forward.

Center for Spiritan Studies
The rich legacy of the Spiritan tradition lies at the very heart of Duquesne University and forms its guiding principles and practical ethos. The Center for Spiritan Studies, inaugurated in September 2005, is a new collaboration between the Congregation of the Holy Spirit and Duquesne University that promotes research into Spiritan history, tradition and spirituality.
The purpose of the Center is to foster creative fidelity to the Spiritan charism in the contemporary world, through a partnership between professed Spiritans, Spiritan Lay Associates and their collaborators.
Spiritan Rule of Life - 3RD EDITION
Dear Confreres, Here is the Spiritan Rule of Life which the Congregation, in the Church, hands to each of us. By the Holy Spirit's grace it can become for each one who lives it, in spirit and in truth, a road to apostolic holiness.
The Church, by beatifying Jacques Laval and Daniel Brottier, recognises that the way Claude Poullart des Places and Francis Libermann pioneered and which generations of Spiritans have travelled, is a right road .

“ I praise you Father, Lord of Heaven
and Earth…” (Lk.10:21)

Few of religious institutes have had so extraordinary a history as the Spiritans.
SPIRASI
In the late 1990s, the number of asylum seekers in Ireland was growing rapidly but there was a lack of administrative or legislative preparedness. Little was known about their needs and there was limited statutory or voluntary provision of support services.

Spiritan Martyrs
During the sixties, the history of theCongregation was marked by a series of sad events: On January 1, 1962, twenty Spiritans, eighteen of whom were Belgians, were massacred at Kongolo. They were killed not because of their nationality but because of their faith.
